The estate offers two unique and historically interesting properties, The Boathouse and Otter Lodge, both beautifully renovated to provide luxury self-catering holiday accommodation in this lovely corner of the Highlands of Scotland. Otter Lodge is an imposing stone building set in the valley below the lake, close to the Horseshoe Falls. It used to be the ‘Powerhouse’ power generating station supplying electricity to the Estate, and the water which used to power the turbines can still be seen running beneath the house, through the viewing window in the living room floor. Derelict and roofless for many years, Otter Lodge was lovingly restored and is now an elegant and luxurious self-catering holiday home. It has two bedrooms (one king and one twin) and two bathrooms, sleeping four guests. Accommodation is entirely on the ground floor, making it accessible for those with limited mobility. Layout: Entrance Hall leads into an expansive living / dining room with dramatic high vaulted ceiling, giving an extra sense of spaciousness to an already large room, which provides a lounge area around the feature fireplace. The huge Gothic window with window seat is a lovely place to sit and admire the stream flowing beneath the house. Furnished to an impeccable standard with large comfortable sofas, and dining table and six chairs. French doors lead out to the patio area with outdoor / garden furniture. The kitchen is fully equipped with electric oven and hob, microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, and washer/dryer. The window at the end of the kitchen looks across the Goose burn to the bluebell wood - a special delight around May time. The master bedroom is spacious with a king-size bed and plenty of hanging and drawer space. The en-suite bathroom encompasses a bath, wash hand basin, and W.C. The twin bedroom comprises two single beds, and plenty of hanging and drawer space. The second bathroom contains a shower, wash hand basin and W.C. The outside area has a patio with timber garden furniture, and ample car parking. Heating and electricity included in your rental. We provide all bedding, bed linen and towels, TV, and WiFi (subject to fair usage policy). Dogs are welcome at an added fee of £20 per dog. The location and the property itself were great. Very peaceful. The cleanliness of the shower cubicle was poor. There was dirt and mould. The shower head in particular was very unclean and I complained at the time and it was changed. The washing machine soap drawer was also very mouldy and I hope this has been deep cleaned. There needs to be more attention paid to cleaning the kitchen (I had to wipe out the fridge door shelf) and the bathrooms. A. Love the cottage stayed a few times and the boat house too, great layout and thoughtfully done, beautiful grounds to walk in and good facilities nearby. Friendly and helpful team on site. The bathrooms and kitchens are showing their age now and could do with a refresh to reflect the price of the accommodation, for example, in the kitchen new hard wearing work services - not wood, an intumescent hob and consider a new oven too. In the bathrooms the seals and fittings could be replaced if not more modern fittings with no pedestals to reduce future maintenance. There is an issue with the shower drain which smells. A. It is also a beautiful unique cottage. The wifi was not working whilst we were there but the housekeeper did everything she could to try and get it working again however it wasn't a problem for us. We loved everything here….the lodge was warm and cozy and the estate grounds were absolutely stunning…everyone made our stay here so easy, relaxing and were so attentive and kind …we would love to stay here again!!! It’s my favorite home away from home ever!! Absolutely nothing to add regarding improvement.. The power went out and the housekeeper texted to let us know the estimated time of when it would be back on and even offered to bring extra blankets if needed …every Sunday she exchanged clean linens and towels… .firewood was always stocked …everything was great…everyone involved went above and beyond even down to us extending our stay and making that process easy …thank you all for your hospitality!!!! In the event of re-letting, the Owner will retain the sum of 100GBP to cover administrative costs and (subject to deduction of that sum) refund to the Holidaymaker the balance of monies received from the Holidaymaker, or the sum received from re-letting whichever sum shall be the lower.
